What is the NSI?

The Neighborhood Security Initiative (NSI) was formed in 2007 to serve the community with a comprehensive plan for security in the Central West End. The NSI and supplemental police patrols are funded through an extra real estate tax voted and approved by the residents. The NSI is a partnership among six of the Central West End’s Special Business Districts, pictured in color in the map below, as well as Washington University Medical Center. The NSI works in cooperation with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, The City’s Finest, LLC., residents and business owners to unify prevention efforts and respond more efficiently to crime as a community.

Central West End Crime rates 2005-2012

Since the start of the initiative in 2007, the NSI has assisted in a 40% decrease in overall crime in the Central West End! This has been done with a combination of all security efforts including additional police patrols, security cameras, and court advocacy.
