Below is a message from the Circuit Attorney’s Office regarding recent issues related to case that is moving its way through the MO State of Appeals court. The Circuit Attorney’s Office is holding a forum to speak publicly about the issue and its possible impact on victim and witness rights in relation to sharing of their information with defense attorney’s and defendants.
“Hello all,
As the people who live and work in the city of St. Louis, our office wanted to inform you of an issue that is currently working its way through our court system.
Recently, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office went to court on behalf of crime victims and witnesses in more than 170 cases whose personal information is at risk of being handed over to criminal defense attorneys and their clients. Circuit Attorney Joyce sees the potential distribution of personal information as dangerous to individuals and harmful to our justice system. Witnesses must have faith that they can safely step forward.
The Circuit Attorney’s Office will be holding community forums in the coming weeks to discuss the issue further and answer questions from the people that it could affect the most – you.
There will be a forum in your area on June 23rd at Buder Library at 4401 Hampton Avenue. It will begin at 6:30 p.m.
We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
The Circuit Attorney’s Office”
