Socially distanced neighborhood cleanup Sat. 10/3

Hello Neighbors! We are planning to have a SOCIAL DISTANCE NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP  this Saturday morning from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Oct 3rd. We will meet at the end of the cul-de-sac on West Pine St. near Sarah St. Please, if you can, bring any work gloves, hand shovels, standard shovels, brooms, dustpans or rakes. it will be greatly appreciated. We will supply some tools, garbage bags, some disinfectant spray and wipes.

The plan is to start in the  Sarah/ West Pine Garden cul-de-sac where we will pull weeds, cut dead tree branches and put in tulips and daffodils that were secured in a grant this fall submitted by Susan Nuart from the Laclede block from Brightside, a neighborhood improvement program. We will also put in bulbs down the street in median and planters.

In addition we will have a small crew to to split up and go up and down the alleys on West Pine/Laclede and West Pine/Lindell from Sarah to Boyle, looking to pull up errant weeds, garbage, ect. If you have knee pads or small work chairs bring them and that can help with the weeding aspect.  Another goal is to prune tree branches that block stop signs at corners.

Please tell your neighbors or young students that they can VOLUNTEER as well. As we have said before. It seems that it is even more important to help keep the neighborhood clean since the pandemic. Many neighbors and students from SLU are taking advantage of the immediate areas while working from home by going out for much needed walks by themselves or with their dogs. Our cul- de-sacs also provide a nice respite for young families who have toddlers to touch and feel the plants and need an area of shade to play in or for seniors who just want to get out of the house. We want things to look nice for everyone and can make it happen if we all pitch in. In the past we usually have had a pot luck lunch after the clean up but are not having that this year. We will revisit that when things get better. In the meantime, please come volunteer and remember to bring your mask!

We are also looking for VOLUNTEERS to commit to HELP WATER THE GARDEN DURING THE SEASONS.

Please if you can attend Saturday, RSVP. (However, we will not turn down walk ons.)

By the way, we have a new volunteer that has moved into the neighborhood, Sharon Olwig who was a tremendous help the other day and will be here on Saturday assisting! If there is a rain day, we will reschedule.
